Corned beef hash is one of my favorite breakfast foods and one of my favorite foods in general. It’s something I grew up with, what can I say. Living in Denver the last fifteen years and rarely cooking, I’ve developed a pretty good understanding of where the best plates of corned beef hash are in the city. Today I felt like writing them down and giving out some awards.

To level set, my baseline is three-fold. First is the canned Hormel corned beef hash that my parents made at home for me. Second is a local metro Detroit diner called the Ram’s Horn that served canned corn beef hash that I loved and ate all the time as a kid. Third and finally, was a diner called local New York style Jewish deli called Hershel’s that served, to no surprise, New York deli style corn beef hash.

The candidates (in no particular order)

  • Pancake House
  • Perkins
  • Sam’s No. 5
  • Snooze’s
  • The Breakfast Inn
  • The Breakfast King
  • Syrup
  • The Delectable Egg
  • Thirsty Lion

Best Selection of Corned Beef Hash – Sam’s No. 5

Sam’s No. 5 offers both made from scratch corned beef hash and corned beef hash from the can. They are both solid plates, but the made from scratch is particularly unique. In addition, Sam’s does more with their corned beef hash. You might find it in a number of things. As of currently you can get a corned beef hash breakfast burrito, which I’ve never seen anywhere else.

Best Canned Corned Beef Hash – The Delectable Egg

Hands down the best corn beef hash from a can that you’ll eat in Denver comes from The Delectable Egg. The corn beef hash is cooked to be less greasy and very light and tender. It is almost fluffy. It’s an interestingly unique take on a fairly standard breakfast plate.

Best Corned Beef Hash – Syrup

The award for best plate of corned beef hash goes to Syrup, with a caveat. I personally don’t eat their corned beef hash the way they serve it. Specifically, I don’t eat it with poached eggs or holaindaise sauce. I prefer it served more traditionally for me, which means with scrambled eggs and no sauce. That said, this is easily the most unique plate of corned beef hash in the city. The beef is braised, bursting with flavor and is served in a hearty portion. The potatoes are significant and high-end restaurant quality as opposed to your typical diced afterthought. Syrup corned beef hash are without a doubt a must try for any CBH lovers out there.
